To accomplish its stated Aims, TurkishPAC has adopted a three-tiered program. In the first phase, the Database will be formed. In the second phase, contact with politicians, media, state and civil organizations will be established to inform them of the Turkish thesis and demand their support of the Openness Principle, which will make the Turkish voice heard. In the third phase, candidates will be determined from the Turkish community who will run for public office.
- Formation of the Database
- A City Coordinator is identified in each city of Texas
- The City Coordinator forms his/her Team by contacting as many trusted friends as possible. He discusses TurkishPAC definition and aims with them, and invites them to join the movement.
- Those who join the TurkishPAC movement agree to:
- Have their name and e-mail address added to the City Database
- Comply with the decisions of the Executive Committee (as explained below, under 2.5.1-4)
- Become Team Leaders themselves by forming a Team of their own. This is done by contacting as many of their own trusted friends as possible, as quickly as possible.
- Each Team Leader
- Urges his Team members to become Team Leaders, in turn, and form their own Team.
- Periodically follows up the activity and performance of his Team members, and encourages them to keep their enthusiasm alive.
- Updates his Team members of TurkishPAC growth and achievements.
- Updates the demographics of his Team members and relates new information to his Team leader.
- As his Team members informs him of new members that they recruited, relates those names to his own Team Leader.
- Always uses Bcc in e-mail communications with his Team Leader and with his Team members. This is to avoid unnecessary exposure of the information circulating in mails. The Armenians have hacked the Turkish Forum database once.
- The City Database grows continually as Team members become Team Leaders and information about recently recruited members flows upwards from Team Leader to Team Leader until it reaches the City Coordinator and is recorded into the City Database and, from there, into the Central Database.
- Establishing Contact with Politicians, Press, and State and Civil Organizations
The second goal of TurkishPAC is to use the strength of the Central Database to make the Turkish voice heard in the US. The following strategies will be followed:
- A portfolio will be prepared, containing reports, books, CD, etc., source documents and studies by respected international scholars, expert on period history, culture and social politics.
- Appointments will be made with City Council members, local, state and federal representatives and congressmen, Independent School District Superintendents, media and press representatives, etc., During the meeting, the portfolio will be presented to them along with a brief summary of the Turkish thesis.
- Importantly, we will not demand that they agree with the Turkish thesis. We will only ask that they support our right to be heard. This is the Principle of Openness: Equal chance for all sides to be fairly and equally represented and heard. For example,
- If a bill on the so-called Armenian Genocide is put on the floor of the House, we will ask that a councilman, a representative or a congressman stand up and say "I do not think this is the whole story. I would like to listen to the other side, as well."
- If a newspaper publishes an editorial unjustly blaming Turkey for the so-called Armenian Genocide, we will ask that they publish our letters of protest to the editor.
- If a history teacher talks about the so-called Armenian Genocide to students, we will ask that they talk about the Turkish thesis as well.
- If a TV station airs the biased film Armenian Genocide, we will ask that they give equal air time to the documentary "Armenian Revolt".
- Should these entities refuse to honor the Openness Principle, and ignore our pleas for a retort, they will be warned of an imminent mass action by the TurkishPAC members.
- Should they still not cooperate, the City Representative involved will call the Executive Committee to discuss the matter and decide on the nature of the mass action to be taken. Mass action may consist of:
- Not voting for the candidate in the next elections
- Canceling subscriptions to the newspaper, etc
- Showering candidate’s office, the school district, the State Education Board, the media station, etc. with protest letters. Pre-printed letters and e-mail address will be provided to TurkishPAC members, should they feel that they do not have time to pen their protest in their own words.
- Cause as much financial and political damage as possible to the violators of the Principle of Openness.
- Entering the American Political System
This is the last and most important phase of the TurkishPAC agenda. Participation in the county, state and federal administrative and legislative mechanism is the most effective way to make the Turkish voice heard. Of course, in order to have a chance at being voted in office, a candidate must have a wide scope of current interests, encompassing more than simple support of the Turkish cause or, say, a thorough knowledge of the imperialistic games played on Ottoman territories at the turn of the century. He or she must also have reasonable, convincing, and feasible solutions to health, education, taxes, international relations, etc., which are problems plaguing American society today. Thus, the candidate should not only be a Turkish patriot well versed in historical, political and economic regional matters, but should also be educated in the American system, successful professionally, and presentable, an articulate orator with charisma and a good grasp of the English language.
Penetrating the political system is easier than most people think. The Pakistani community has successfully placed one of their members in the Houston City Council. Presently, they have another candidate running for State House. If they succeeded in this, we certainly can, as well. It only takes dedication and perseverance and numbers, acting in unison!
An advisor of the Pakistani Houston City Councilman, The Honorable MJ Khan, has a very effective PowerPoint presentation that describes the steps a community should take to participate politically. We will have a videotape of his talk distributed to City Coordinators.
